Synthesis and properties of neat, hybrid, and copolymeric polyamide 12 microparticles and composites on their basis

Neat and hybrid polyamide 12 (PA12) based powders are important raw materials for additive manufacturing. This study describes a facile method the synthesis of pure, copolymeric microparticulate on one-pot activated anionic ring-opening polymerization (AAROP) laurolactam in solution. The results reveal possibility to obtain good yields, reaction times 2 h temperatures up 110°C neat PA12 microparticles (MP) carrying metal or carbon fillers. Copolymeric PA12/PA6 MP can also be successfully prepared. All analyzed by spectral, microscopy, thermal, synchrotron X-ray scattering methods order clarify their morphology, chemical crystalline structure, melting degradation behavior. temperature is lower than commercial PA12, presence particles copolymerization with PA6 additionally decrease it well below 170°C. composites prepared compression molding display elastic modulus 1.49 GPa, stresses at yield break reaching 50 69 MPa, respectively. It concluded that neat, hybrid, pulverulent obtained via microencapsulation AAROP solution may useful manufacturing processing.
